@Regence Blue Shield of Idaho ~ Letter to President Obama

by Mary on January 2, 2010

Dear President Obama,

There’ve been plenty of important issues having surfaced during the holidays when most American’s are taking some down time to enjoy family and friends.  As our President, you deserve downtime too, but in the face of the most important, highest profile job in America, and a botched terror attack that kept the pressure on, we both know you have to suck it up when duty calls.    You’ve stepped up to the plate and verbally demonstrated a Commander who is sorely disappointed.  Many of your fellow citizens hope you will follow through with appropriate action, discipline or termination for those who are living the fat happy cat government lives and did not meet the terms of their job description.

Aside from the subject of terror and counter-terrorism units  withholding information, I’d like to ask that you bring your focus back on health care issues when time permits.  Despite the fact that most American’s observed a hastily approved health care reform plan on Christmas Eve Day, there are larger issues at stake when a President who is goal driven, fails to understand what is happening to  American’s out here in “Work Hard to Pay Your Bills and Live a Good Life“  land.   We aren’t among the “entitled 30 million people” whose health care and basic needs you are working so hard to supply.  The 30 million American’s without health care will truly get the BEST HEALTH CARE MY MONEY CAN BUY.  Yeah, myself and many other folks are already getting premium notices increasing our monthly investment in your “30 million” program.  I’m sure there are a good percentage of that 30 million who are truly deserving of assistance.  I assure you though Mr. President, the other 90% simply believe in and accept their entitlements as a by-product of their culture.  They have learned “to work the system” and now “the system is working for them”.

Here’s the bottom line.

Millions of Americans are  reading premium letters from their health insurance providers delivered today,  January 2, 2010 .  My letter was packaged along with new terms of my health insurance policy and explains that an increase to our premium for 2010 of $150 per month is necessary.  Of course there is NOTHING they can do to avoid the increase.   Hello!

The insurance companies apparently know how to “work the system” as well.   Meanwhile us  hardworking American’s are bent over the fence.  One lady who commented on my Facebook post said her insurance has increased so much she and her husband are going to have to drop their insurance.

I am self employed and self insured.  I cover the health insurance expenses for our household.  I suck nothing from society but contribute alot.   Those of us who understand the discipline of hard work and productive lifestyles also try to take other measures to control spiraling insurance costs across the board.  In staying focused on the subject of health insurance though, my husband and I had the “deranged” notion that if we pay out-of-pocket for our health care needs (prescriptions and a few clinic visits), our insurance would stay fixed at the same rate.  Boy were we gullible.  Regence Blue Shield of Idaho didn’t seem to care for that notion at all.   Even though my husband and I raised our deductibles for 2009 premiums, and we didn’t use our insurance one time in 2009, we’re now being privileged with a $150 increase per month.

I’d like to share the letter I received from Regence Blue Shield with you.  I’ll post it soon.

COMMENT IF YOU RECEIVED AN INCREASE FROM REGENCE BLUE SHIELD INSUREDS

Post a comment if you’ve received a notice of increase to your health insurance premium from Regence Blue Shield.   Perhaps no one will speak up.   Perhaps there is too much suppression and no one wants to rock the boat.  Thats fine.   Put your head in the sand.

BTW, I’m not picking on Regence Blue Shield.  Its just that they’re the ones who sent the letter and are increasing my insurance by another $150 per month.  I find it disturbing to receive an increase when I’ve not even used my health insurance and have paid in close to $4800 this year.  How bout I just plop that money in the bank in 2010?  YEAH!  THATS A GREAT IDEA!!  I could make 1.25% interest on that money.  Wow!  A whopping $72 dollars.   How bout I just spend it, blow it, forget about my health insurance.  I could just buy me a new cadillac, a big giant screened monitor, a couple new pairs of shoes, maybe a trip to Hawaii or something….

President Obama, I hope you won’t mind me inviting others to comment on this blog.  I’d like to ask anyone who has received an increase notice from Regence Blue Shield of Idaho to post a comment here with the amount of increase received.  Was there anyone spared?  Was any household lucky enough not to receive one of those letters?

[WHAT SAY YOU! REGENCE BLUE SHIELD!!!  Are you getting notice of my blog through a google alert?]

LET’S DO A LITTLE BIT OF MATH TOGETHER

If just 25 families received $150 increase per  household, that would equal $3750 per month, and $45000 per year.    What if  2500 families  received an average $250 per month increase to their household health care insurance premiums?

$250 x 12 x 2500 = $7.5 MILLION DOLLARS.    $7,500,000.00   <<< MILLIONS FLEECED OUT OF HARD WORKING AMERICANS >>>>

7.5 Million should be enough to fund the year end bonuses for top executives at Regence Blue Shield.

President Obama, if you fix the fraud, – you’d have a good start on fixing the problems.
