Web design is the gas that fuels my engines, the wind beneath my wings, and I’ll admit, the entire virtual world consumes most of my personal thoughts. Until recently, MaryMangold.com represented my personal real estate agent site. Yep. Five years ago I observed that real estate consumers from California and Washington and other locations were seeking to find info about local real estate in Idaho County. I noticed search strings in the statistics for the Grangeville Chamber site at www.grangevilleidaho.com were reflecting high numbers of folks typing in keyword searches to include “Grangeville Real Estate”. Once I became licensed with Windermere as a Grangeville agent, I found that most people who were from out of state, seeking property in this area, weren’t even getting responses to their email or web based inquiries. I hit the deck running, with the internet as my niche, and made hay while the sun shined, all the while continuing to pursue my custom web design business, designing site after site, working 12 to 18 hour days, not a spare moment to sit and smell the roses. Time evolved, people came and went, I left Windermere and affiliated with United Country Musick & Sons.
Its typical at the beginning of a new decade, businesses, corporations, organizations of all types and sizes, begin to evaluate their focus. Where they’ve been, where they’re going, and what goals and objectives make the most sense. Entrepreneurs do the same. So when I got to feeling like I really wanted to streamline things, work smarter and not harder, the answer was real easy. Real estate had to go. No question about it. Once I make a decision, I do not procrastinate or delay the inevitable. My real estate license was recently inactivated and Mary Mangold as a real estate agent is now just a part of my personal history. So long. Farewell. Its time to say goodbye.

My web design business is exploding, and the money is good. You don’t have to wait and wonder if a web project will close, if the sellers or buyers will bail, if the lending doesn’t come through, if the home has mold, or if the property is priced too high… In the world of web design, the money is there, half down and half when I finish the project. I make a far better income working smart at web design.
I love web design and my heart is singing its praises for the courage it took to make this change, to risk disappointing a couple of folks (my clients have and always will be very very special to me) and to forge ahead with life as a freelance web designer without any other hooks or obligations aside from my hubby, my family and my household. So there you have it. Mary Mangold is no longer a real estate agent and has one job now – as a freelance custom web designer. I look forward to the wonders of technology in 2010 with the glee of a kid in a candy store!
